Yes, the symptom is reproducible when using alsa directly with the M2496. The Intel output was silent, which I'm guessing is due to me disabling it somewhere - I only use the M2496 sound card. I'm guessing the affected package should be updated to reflect this, but I'm not sure which package it should be in that case.
