Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub-pc

I installed ubuntu and choose to put GRUB on my partition /dev/sda5 because I
have multiple installations of linux.
When the packages grub-pc and grub-common were updated, I got the MBR
overridden.

This should never happen!
Ubuntu should save where GRUB was last installed and update only that place.
