Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vlc

i have a harddisk, that is only used for backups and is unmounted and spun off
most of the time. sometime when i launch vlc (normally through opening a file
in nautilus) the drive spins up.
the drive is attached via sata (ahci mode) as /dev/sdb, has no partition table
(whole drive is a LUKS-device) and is unmounted when the problem arises.

nothing useful in the logs and i was not able to produce any useful
traces etc. due to the infrequence of the problem, ideas are welcome.

the same(?) problem was reported a while ago for macos in the official
forums: http://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=62462

i'm using ubuntu 10.04 64b.

** Affects: vlc (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
