ChrisSteinbach, your solution worked for me, thanks a lot! In my case there are
some details thought:
1-using nomodeset I could actually see what I was doing
2-text mode with network, failed me(3G usb minimodem), I just mounted my
windows partition, which had the linux nvidia driver
3- I use nvidia linux driver NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-260.19.21.run, which is run
"sudo sh ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-260.19.21.run"
4 - my path was not /proc/acpi/video/PEG0/LCD0/EDID, but
/proc/acpi/video/XVS0/LCD0/EDID. I could obtain this path using a lot of "cd
/directory" and "ls" commands
5-unable to modify a text file on text mode, I just used nomodeset again and
entered failsafe-x, where I could actually change xorg.conf. After nouveau
deletion, I noted which recovery mode>failsafe-x is a working possibility too.
When there is an userland solution I would be glad to download a updated ubuntu
install cd and reinstall my root partition!
