the currrent version AMD64 installed. I have downloaded Thunderbird and Skype but havent installed as yet.. will do the testing tonight.. but so far keyboard is resolved...appears there may be a problem with adobe flash ..will try again and advise.. it was an update to firefox...thanks for the assistance.. booting and using the suggested latest development release. I will test the upstream kernel tonight... I am responding from the other AMD64 laptop.. (newer of the two).. and still running Vista on this work laptop.... will switch as soon as I can get all my software or systems working on Linux.
