Hi Martin, I can help you with this issue. I have an acer laptop and the euro and dollar keys doesn't work in X. I followed the steps in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Hotkeys/Troubleshooting. With the 'keymap' tool, I see that the 'euro' key, when pressed, is producing 'scan code: 0xB3 key code: euro'; the dollar key - 'scan code: 0xB4 key code: dollar'. With the xev, the keys are not producing any events.
