I am experiencing this bug in Maverick. I'm not using the Pidgin plugin, nor streaming audio over the internet. Sometimes Rhythmbox will play my playlist for approx. 4 hours before freezing, other times it's less than 10 minutes. Sometimes it freezes at the end of a song, and will not continue to the next song; other times it freezes in the middle of a song. Any attempt to switch to a different song causes the whole program to lock up. If no attempt to switch songs is made, Rhythmbox can be closed normally by the close button in the title bar. The next time Rhythmbox is run, it opens for about 15 seconds before spontaneously closing again. Opening Rhythmbox again allows normal usage, until playback freezes again. I read in another bug that turning on Crossfading should help with this problem. I'll try it out and report back.
