** Description changed: I recently purchased a Brother HL-2270DW laser printer with Duplex printing and Wi-Fi. Because their driver CD is Windows-only, I used my Windows Vista system to successfully install the printer and connect it to my Wi-Fi router. All print functions work fine, including disabling the Duplex option to print documents in single-side format. After doing so, my Kubuntu 10.10 system correctly discovered the network printer via Wi-Fi, and installed the printer. All print functions work fine, except that the printer prints all documents, from any application, in Duplex mode, even if I disable the Duplex option. I can successfully set the Duplex mode to "none," but when I initiate the print job, it prints Duplex anyway. Troubleshooting steps I have taken: 1. Rebooting both the computer and printer. No change. 2. Deleting the Printer from the Printer configuration applet, and re-discovering it. No change. 3. Downloading Brother's Linux driver installation tool for this printer. This driver installer incorrectly identifies the printer as a DCP1000. After installation, there is no duplex option for this printer, and NO print job actually prints. I uninstalled/re-installed this driver several times with no change. 4. Connected the printer to my Linux system using USB cable and tried all the above steps again. All results were the same. Kubuntu successfully recognized the printer without the downloaded driver, but the Duplex control does not work. The downloaded driver still misidentifies the printer, and does not work at all. Brother Technical Support could not reproduce the problem, and has no troubleshooting advice beyond what I've already done. They insist that the problem is in the OS, which I can't argue with, since the printer works in Windows, and (they claim) it works correctly under several Linux distros that they have tested, including Ubuntu 10.10. Expected action: Setting the Duplex mode to "none" results in single-sided printouts. Actual result: All printouts are double-sided, regardless of the Duplex mode selection.
