Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

This is a usability bug, an idea for a feature for the next version of
Unity.

You see, the thing about docks is, when you have an active window and
you click on its icon, it minimizes (unless there are more instances of
this window open, in which case I don't know what happens because I
don't use a dock). The frustrating thing about using Unity right now is
that I often see myself clicking on the icon of the active window to
minimize it, and instead, I see it float away backwards so I can see it
in perspective.

My idea is:

- When you click on the icon for the active window and there are
multiple instances of this window, the current behaviour stands, because
it is awesome. Only in this case.

- When you click on the icon for the active window and there is _only
one_ instance of the window, but other programs are opened, we use the
same effect, but showing _all_ programs and their windows so we can
choose between them (as opposed to choosing between... Well, the only
thing that appears on the screen which is what you are already seeing)

- When you click on the icon for the active window and there is only one
instance of the window, and no other program running, the window
minimizes, showing the desktop.

Another possibility is to have Unity dash as a window, so you can choose
it in alt+tab dialog (as it is in Kubuntu netbook version; I find that
to be pretty amazing) and, when there's only one program running,
clicking on the icon makes you choose between it and the dash.
