Public bug reported: I was told to file a new bug report (see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/670575)
I installed maverick 10.10 last month (October) and the sound worked fine until I updated the system on the 5th Nov 2010 (what I do regularly, last one befoe probably in the beginning of this week).Since then no sound at all (music, video, skype, system, ...). I tried to change all settings in the sound preferences, but no effect. I have Dell 1545 (2009 Edition, Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 (2.0GHz,800MHz,2MB), HDA Intel). Any quick help is appreciated, it is nice to be without sound ... After some more research, I found following instruction that solved my problem: ******************* http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1605184&page=3 Using a Terminal="Applications->Accessories->Terminal" Open this file for editing: Code: gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf Insert this line at the bottom: Code: options snd-hda-intel model=3stack Save. Close. Reboot. Check your levels in alsamixer. Code: alsamixer Press <F6> to select the correct soundcard. Press <F3> to show playback levels. <F4> selects capture levels [or use <Tab>] Use the left/right arrow keys to select and up/down arrow keys to change levels. <M> to mute/unmute. Go to "System ->Preferences ->Sound" and make sure the correct soundcard is default and adjust your profile on the hardware tab. On the output tab choose the correct device. ************** In the last couple of weeks, the sound would sometimes go off and all get back after a restart. I could not yet find a pattern and it did not happen for some days. ** Affects: alsa-driver (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/688427 Title: No sound in all applications (Ubuntu 10.10) after update on the 5th Nov 2010 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
