Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

After installing Ubuntu 10.10 to a USB external hard drive, it fails to
boot. If I hold down shift, I get GRUB and a blinking cursor, so it
found Grub in the MBR but can't find /boot. This is when installing
from a USB mem stick.

I can tell my BIOS to boot from my USB mem stick and that works fine.
Then in the installer, I select advanced partitioning, create a swap and
ext4 partition on the external USB hard drive, the bootloader target
then automatically changes to that same external USB hard drive, and
installation seems to go fine. I then tell my BIOS to boot from that
same external drive, and I get it stopping at GRUB as stated above.

partman and syslog from /var/log/installer/ attached.
