Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubiquity
After installing Ubuntu 10.10 to a USB external hard drive, it fails to boot. If I hold down shift, I get GRUB and a blinking cursor, so it found Grub in the MBR but can't find /boot. This is when installing from a USB mem stick. I can tell my BIOS to boot from my USB mem stick and that works fine. Then in the installer, I select advanced partitioning, create a swap and ext4 partition on the external USB hard drive, the bootloader target then automatically changes to that same external USB hard drive, and installation seems to go fine. I then tell my BIOS to boot from that same external drive, and I get it stopping at GRUB as stated above. partman and syslog from /var/log/installer/ attached. ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: boot drive external fail grub grub2 hard hdd install installer ubiquity usb -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/688712 Title: Install to USB hard drive fails - Grub2 fails to find /boot - Ubuntu 10.10 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
