Binary package hint: unity
In the latest version of Unity apps with several open windows are
indicated by several bright arrows to the left of the launcher, which
turn blue when one of them demands your attention.
I think these arrows should also indicate when one of the windows is
minimised, e.g. by making the arrow dimmer or changing its colour.
