The same situation here. I try in 2 different PC, one AMD based and another Intel based. The system is hibernate capable: dbus-send --system --print-reply --dest="org.freedesktop.UPower" --type=method_call --reply-timeout=6000 /org/freedesktop/UPower org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties.Get string:org.freedesktop.UPower string:CanHibernate method return sender=:1.17 -> dest=:1.41 reply_serial=2 variant boolean true The "bus-send --print-reply --system --dest=org.freedesktop.UPower /org/freedesktop/UPower org.freedesktop.UPower.Hibernate" command working fine, and of course under the logout menu is still working the hibernate. Only under the GDM login window is missing the hibernate option. The system is a up-to-date Xubuntu 10.10.
