Wow, a comprehensive guide, I would like to see that.  My email address
is plastered all over LP and is in the Me TV about dialog, but here it
is again, michael.lamo...@gmail.com.  If you are being booted out to the
login page then this not a Me TV issue, I can almost guarantee that your
X server is crashing.  I don't know how you get any support with Mint
here, you'll need to raise it with them to see if they are fixing the
issue or sending it upstream.

One last thing to try is to use the "-s" option on the command line
which starts Me TV in a kind of "safe mode" which will show the
preferences dialog without trying to tune to a channel first.  From
there you'll want to select a difference video driver, xshm is usually a
good one.  I'm not sure at which point the X server is crashing but it's
usually when the video is being rendered i.e. this is just a guess.
