The problem persists with kernel 2.6.35-23. It is very annoying, since
you need to manually power off the computer and all the ACPI features
are disabled.

I have tried to play with various options with the acpi kernel parameter
(e.g. acpi=ht, acpi=noirq) but they all have absolutely no effect to the
problem.

The only way to boot properly is still acpi=off.

I would add more information, but since the computer freezes at such an
early stage, I get no chance to capture some log files.
