I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 on a Sager laptop and also have this problem. Adding the script to /etc/pm/sleep.d/ to unload/reload the xhci_hcd module seems to solve the problem for me. After reading the comments, I'm not sure if it's better to add xhci_hcd to SUSPEND_MODULES.
