On my PC, it's possible to check the status with lm_sensors (called lm-
sensors in Debian based distros.)

Run "sensors" from the command line, or use the daemon "sensord". If the
fan is not working and the temperature exceeds some value, you'll see
the word "ALARM" in the output. For how to receive alarm automatically,
see the man page of sensord.
