I had this exact issue on my Intel 5100 wireless card for a long time.
Numerous kernel updates have not fixed it. FYI. The trick I learned
which would greatly improve the connection stability is to disable the N
feature of the device by creating a file:

/etc/modprobe.d/intel-5300-iwlagn-disable11n.conf

In it, put the following line:

options iwlagn 11n_disable=1

Reboot the system and you may notice the improvement, too.
