I don't know what version is being used in Debian, but I'm running 10.10 and this bug (or a similar one) is recurring... I remember this was fixed back in July for 10.10 and that it had not been merged with 10.04 yet, but I'm having a similar problem again.
Here are some outputs: lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 10.10 Release: 10.10 apt-cache policy youtube-dl youtube-dl: Installé : 2010.08.04-1 Candidat : 2010.08.04-1 Table de version : *** 2010.08.04-1 0 500 http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick/universe amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status youtube-dl http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1rYmzQ8C9Q [youtube] Setting language [youtube] z1rYmzQ8C9Q: Downloading video webpage [youtube] z1rYmzQ8C9Q: Downloading video info webpage [youtube] z1rYmzQ8C9Q: Extracting video information ERROR: unable to download video (format may not be available) I've tried to download a number of different videos and I always get this same error message. Notice that the error message is similar, but subtly different, from the one I was getting in July. Again, I have ascertained that the video works in the browser (if you are looking for good music, I think you should check out the youtube link...) Let me know if I can help in any way.
