I have the same problem with a Dell Inspiron 2200, with a Proxim Gold Orinoco 11b/g wireless card and ath5k driver. Normally it resumes in 2..3 seconds, but sometimes (~1 in 10) it takes up to 4 minutes.
During this time the screen is black (except for a text cursor in the upper left corner), the hard drive light is off and it does not respond to the keyboard.
