Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

1) Ubuntu 8.04 - the Hardy Heron
lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 8.04.4 LTS
Release: 8.04

2) OpenOffice.org 2.4.1

3) When I copied the file from the other computer with the same OS and
version of OpenOffice, I expected to be able to print the document to
the same network printer. Both computers and the printer are all
plugged into the same Router.

4) The print job goes into the Queue and indicates Processing, but the
print job does not print. The Router does not indicate any activity to
the printer's port.

Problem description:

A Writer document was created on one computer. I copied the file to
another computer. Both computers have the same OS and version of
OpenOffice and updates for all software is installed on both computers.
The document prints on the computer that created the document, but it
does not print on the computer to which I copied the file. The hardware
in the two computers is different.

On the computer that does not print the file, I tried opening the file
with OpenOffice Writer and copying the contents of the Writer document
to a new document. I can print the new copy of document this way. This
document is just a few lines of text, but I am concerned that a more
complicated document may not be as easy to copy and print.

When I use File, Print, the Print dialog box does not show the IP
address of the printer, see attached screen capture. I will add a
screen capture of the Print dialog box that does print after I submit
this initial Bug Report.

One more thing, the computer which created the document, has a different
driver for the same printer and I suspect it is not the best driver.
When printing some types of documents the driver adds a blank page after
the last page of the document. The computer I created the Bug Report on
does not add extra blank pages to the end of printed documents.

In case the driver adding blank pages to the end of printed documents is
part or all of the problem, what is the best way to determine the
correct driver for both computers for this printer? The printer is a HP
LaserJet 4.

Thank you for looking into this situation.
