Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: python-imaging

Especially when detecting/accessing scanners over the network, the
sane.get_devices() and sane.open() calls can block the python
interpreter for a fair number of seconds.

Threads should be allowed to be able to detect devices in background
without i.e. blocking a GUI application.
