After reporting this issue, I reinstalled Ubuntu about 4 times with a clean format of harddisk.But this time I installed Ubuntu 10.10 directly. No problems now in the OS so far.
Whatever information i had during that upgrade, I've already posted. Now I'm on a clean install of Ubuntu 10.10 So no problems faced during the install.
