I have a similar problem on a Dell Latitude E4310, and it appeared
around the same period (december 2010): my USB cordless mouse stopped
working intermittently, and plugin it out and back in does not always
solve the problem.

I attach a fragment of /var/log/syslog where
at 09:29:06 I plug the USB receiver and the mouse works, and then
at 09:29:24 the mouse stops working, with a lot of USB errors in syslog.
later on, at 09:34:41, I plug the receiver again but it is not even recognized
