Hi there The system is a shambles.
Today I used the 10.10 install disk with no Ethernet connection, but with a wireless dongle. The new system installed and booted OK and then allowed me to connect via the Netgear dongle. I started update manager and it installed some 140MB of updates (Part 1) before asking for a restart. Now the fun(?) started. After booting the system gives the normal "bom- bom" and produces a login screen. This time when I login it shows the front screen for a while, then shows a vertically divided screen with horizontal lines and then goes back to the login screen. It lets me login in safe mode, but then fails to connect the wireless network. It does not show the network icon on the top taskbar. If I plug in an Ethernet connection, it shows updates in update manager, but will not apply them. I can do updates via: sudo apt-get dist-upgrade but all this makes the system unusable. regards Peter -----Original Message----- From: boun...@canonical.com [mailto:boun...@canonical.com]on Behalf Of Jeremy Foshee Sent: Monday, January 10, 2011 9:49 PM To: hall.pe...@talk21.com Subject: [Bug 472522] Re: Deskpro EN p733 when ubuntu changes screenresolution from 1280*1024 it seems OK but screen is scrambledat reboot This bug report was marked as Incomplete and has not had any updated comments for quite some time. When I try to change the resolution, ubuntu does not recognise the display type, but it does offer several resolution variants. If I select 1024*768 (which suits my old eyes much better than the original) everything works fine - until I reboot. Then I get a screen which seems to have versions of the display (slightly displaced) on top of each other. The computer worked fine at 1024*768 with Windows 2000. Disconcertingly if then I try one of the safe variants of login, I can eventually get in, BUT my wireless connection is lost. This sounds to me like the back end end of some peripheral control file has been lost when the system shuts down.
