Public bug reported:

I downloaded the ubuntu 10.10 installer iso, and created a bootable ubuntu disk
from it.
After that I created a new partition on the harddisk and tried to install on
this.
during the installation, I got a message that the installation had failed,
maybe because of errors on the CD, and something about error code -5.
And also something about submitting some files along with this message, but
nothing about how to get hold of those files, so they are not attached.

After this the machine couldn't boot from the HD,
Then I tried to use the ubuntu disk as boot, in order to run ubuntu from it,
and it prompted me for username & PW. After trying several combinations and
searching online for suggestions for such, I gave up.

So I took the HD out, and connected it to another machine, and via Partition
magic I was told that the HD now contains one BAD partition., and data will be
lost. PM says that:
"The drive contains partitions created using a different drive geometry (240h
63s). This serious problem can lead to data loss. No partition manibulation
should be made to the disk using this tool. Backup the data on this disk,
delete all partitions and then restore your data using the backup."

That is what Partition Magic says.
What do you say?
Best regards
Niels Monberg
