I have the same situation; however, up until this weekend (January 16,
2011), my drive has been functioning properly. Perhaps there is
something in the last kernel update for Maverick Meerkat that is the
cause of the problem?

I am using an Acer Aspire One AO531h netbook running Ubuntu Netbook Edition
10.10 with 2 GiB of RAM.
My DVD drive is a Velocity Micro 101 which Disk Utility reads as TSSTcorp
CD/DVDW TS-L632M [/dev/sr0]
