Inspiron 1545 is Ubnutu-certified: see http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/hardware/200910-4252 . I have one which works mostly. After booting, it does not suspend and the Power Management Preferences application does not show the General tab, only the "On AC Power" and "On Battery" tabs. But after this app is run once and closed, running it again shows the General tab, and closing the lid suspends the computer.
I bought the laptop from Dell with Ubuntu 9.10 pre-installed.
