Thank you for this report. You installed 10.04, applications failed, so
you upgraded to 10.10 without fixing the failures?

At this point, you can try running fsck by booting to the recovery menu. You 
can also open a terminal and try running 
sudo dpkg --configure -a
and then try updating again. 

Please do not try to update versions if something is already broken, it
will fail.
