I am using Lucid Lynx, Thunderbird 3.1.7 and I am affected by this bug too.
I use IMAP and "Detach" and "Delete" used to work just fine before, and I love this feature. Recently (perhaps after an update) it behaves erratically: It works sometimes, and sometimes it doesn't.
