Yes, indeed. Sorry if I seemed a bit of a novice with following your instructions. It's been ages since I used the shell regularly (I started with an Amiga in the late 1980s) and forgot how the pipe command redirects output, which should have told me where the output text files would end up. If this problem ever recurs on my PC, I can use the sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get upgrade commands again. Thank you so much for your thoughtful assistance. Regards, Michael.
