Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: base-installer

(i hope i've got the package right)
Found in: Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick

When installing ubuntu, the last step is choosing a computername, username,
password etc.
The username cannot contain capitals, but the input field does accept capitals
and does not give a clear warning. The only hint is that the field doesn't have
a green 'v' behind it. This is very confusing for users who have never used the
old installer so don't know this field cannot contain capitals. I've had to
help several users on dutch bulletin boards who couldn't finish the installer
because they had a capital in their username.

If someone uses capitals in this field, it should give a clear warning (red
cross instead of green 'v'?) with an explanation that says capitals are not
allowed.
Or, it should be made in a way that capitals are automatically inserted as
lower case, so it's impossible to use capitals in the first place.

** Affects: base-installer (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
