Same here on eMachines640 but ive noticed it only when using skype.What happen to me is it get muted after some use..when that happen input level meter on inputtab on sound prfs dialog box doesnot move. it turns in to a dull color.even afer pulseaudio -k; pulseaudio -D no use.have to restart laptop to get it work..
