Public bug reported: I installed Ubuntu 10.10 32 bit as a clean install. I have a soundblaster audigy 4 and the sound is not working at all. I ran the command 'sudo apt-get install gnome-mixer' and restarted the machine and that did not fix it. The same command fixed the no sound issue on either 9.10 or 10.04.
