I can not reproduce this 100%, sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't. There were many occasions, when the rich text was pasted as simple text, and then this did not happen, but when the text was pasted as rich text, the results were as you have described. Tested on both OpenOffice 3.3 and LibreOffice 3.3. There might be two separate issues here (the one you have described, and rich text is not always pasted as formatted).
