Hi Mathieu. I'm grateful that someone has taken an interest in this bug. If you have a look at the wifisyslog (basically the dmesg output), you'll notice that another pcmcia network card was inserted and recognised by the system. This was to enable the reporting of the bug. You can clearly see the repeated phrase "doesn't support manual roaming" which is the well-established symptom of this bug.
I used the apport-collect command to add information to the bug. If you have a close look at the daemon.log (generated under maverick), you can see the detailed output of NM and wpa_supplicant as they attempt to connect to the access point and fail. As far as I can determine there is no workaround for this bug using the NM / wpa_supplicant stack - unless you count using different hardware ;-) Setting bug back to confirmed (clearly there are other duplicates with similar symptoms). ** Changed in: network-manager (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/715438 Title: hermes-I wireless interface will not associate with open access point -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
