If I login from KDM and switch to VT1 a second later, while KDE is

Also, the first terminal gets filled with garbage - random characters
with random colors, usually blinking. But, if I clear the screen, it
works fine after that.
I'm running the latest packages in Feisty. I use the Savage driver on a
Thinkpad T20.
