I have the same problem too. In gnome I cannot mount the hard drives and I recieve this error: Cannot mount volume. Error org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.PermissionDeniedByPolicy. Advanced -> hal-storage-fixed-mount refused uid 1000 The following works fine: sudo gnome-mount --device /dev/sda2 --mount-point store But if change it to gnome-mount --device /dev/sda2 --mount-point store then I get the same error as above. The same problem occurs with usb drives.
