I can confirm that I have exactly the the same type of problem, and that
it is limited to images printed from The Gimp (I can print the exact
same image from Geeqie).  The error reports from my printer begin:

ERROR: limitcheck
OFFENDING COMMAND: image

STACK:

... then a bunch of gibberish no doubt indicating the contents of the
stack in this particular case.

I'm using a 3.2Mb color PNG file, which I'm attempting to print from
GIMP 2.6.8 on Lucid.  The printer is a Fuji-Xerox C1110 with postscript
3 support.  As previously stated, this problem only happens with the
Gimp. Alex's remarks have the ring of truth about them, I'd hate to see
this issue lost in red tape.
