It's really there to "lock" a connection to a particular device. The
only efficient way to do so is using the system's MAC, though I agree it
might be a little confusing when exposed in UI like this.

If you have ideas on how to display it better, please don't hesitate to
bring them up on the NetworkManager mailing list.
