This shouldn't be a problem since udev calls mdadm itself (check
/etc/udev/rules.d/85-mdadm.rules)

The mdadm script should fail, but then when udev makes sda1 and sda2, it
should also make /dev/md0

Can you do me a favour, do 1) and 2) as you suggest above, but also look
to see whether /dev/md0 exists as well as sda1 and sdb1
