Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

The installer apparently attempts to restrict the hostname to a
syntactically valid domain name. It prevented my attempts to use
inappropriate characters or initial hyphens. However, it permitted me
to set the hostname to (IIRC) "gnoichle..bong" (or some other string
containing two consecutive dots).

I would be happy to supply code (eg a regexp) for more accurate
validation. What is the correct language and context ?

** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: Unconfirmed
