I added some more details about my environment to Question #146198 in response to a comment left there and figured that this bug report would benefit from having the same information added.
Since others have been unable to replicate the issue, this would seem to indicate an issue with interoperability between Firefox and perhaps my video drivers. I am running Ubuntu on a Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop and have been since 2009. It appears as though I'm running the Nouveau drivers for my NVidia graphics card. In System > Preferences > Appearance > Visual Effects, I have "None" selected (i.e. "Provides a simple desktop environment without any effects"). I'm not sure exactly when this issue started, since it's only recently that I managed to identify this issue as being with large images. I've had issues with my laptop freezing in both Google Chrome and Firefox since at least Ubuntu 10.10 but it might have been as long ago as since I installed 10.04. I previously presumed it was related to having both Chrome and Firefox running at the same time or when either had many tabs and windows being opened at startup, and putting my video driver under strain. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/722564 Title: Firefox freezes Ubuntu when page with large image is loaded -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
