The update this morning is exactly what -broke- my machine in the first place. By the way, my drive is not a Western Digital Sata as I believed, but rather a Hitachi PATA drive, that seems to be mounted via a scsi interface. I don't plan to do any more kernel updates until I see positive feedback in bug #106063.
