I have an LCD monitor, MAX refresh rate is 75Hz. It is connected to a 4 port VGA KVM.
If I install WinXP or Win2000 it works fine. It is working on my 64bit Dapper PC, I think I had to fix it when I installed the pre official Dapper version, can't remember for sure. If I install Ubuntu Dapper 32bit (and KnoppMyth), I haven't tried 64bit lately, it seems to decides that whenever it is VGA that the default refresh is 85Hz, way out of spec. There are no real choices to set this in menus either. It was a real fight for me to try to reset it, and newbies will give up and condemn Ubuntu. I edited the video settings file, but it was still out of spec at the logon splash screen, not easy to solve/reset all this quickly when it might fry your new $300 monitor. Look at all the refresh problems related to this on the Ubuntu desktop forums. There MUST be a way to give a default range of settings and setting 70Hz as default so it will work on ALL computers like WinBlows does. This is the only thing I have seen that degrades this otherwise excellent version of Ubuntu. http://www.ubuntuforums.org/search.php?searchid=7431994 Jim Kaleo wrote: > Thanks for your bug report. > > AFAIK, the refresh rate does not have a default value but depends on > your hardware. > > And please, to maintain a respectful atmosphere, be sure to follow > http://www.ubuntu.com/community/conduct/.
