Seems I have the same problem with different hardware (Atheros wifi card Toshiba Satellite 5200 notebook trying to connect to hidden WPA-PSK US Robotics 8054 router - exact same router configuration works fine with other OSs).
Sadly, I have never got it to work in over 18 months of patiently awaiting a solution for (k)ubuntu. Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions - thanks.
