I have the same problem on ubuntu 10.04 LTS (x86_64) Linix 2.6.32-29 and OpenOffice 3.2.0. I have also a very slow startup of openoffice that OOo is trying to resolve the local hostname on the network... I the solution explained hereunder solved the startup problem :
