I have observed the exact same bug in Ubuntu 7.04 Beta. Regarding the maximize button, it is worth noting that it will also disappear if focus leaves the "Ubuntu device database collection" window, such as when the user clicks on another window or uses alt-tab to bring-up another window. The maximize button will also disappear if the user presses "ctrl-alt-right_arrow" to switch to another desktop and then returns to the original desktop.
