For what it's worth, I can reproduce David M.'s assertion by starting Dragon Age Origins on my system under wine-1.3.16. There seem to be two workarounds: 1) run the app in question under "taskset 1" -or- 2) put enable-shm = no in ~/.pulse/daemon.conf
