Are you talking about in X or when you first boot up?

For X you can either use my Xorg.conf file I am attaching or you can do
the following.

Open a terminal -> type: sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Scroll down to Section

Section "Monitor"
        Identifier "Generic Monitor"
        Option "DPMS"
EndSection

and change it to look like:

Section "Monitor"
        Identifier "Generic Monitor"
        Option "DPMS"
        HorizSync 30-60
        VertRefresh 50-75
EndSection

-----For grub fullscreen at boot you need to add the vga=773 in your
options.
